My Approach

Here, I share a little bit about my inspiration to design gardens the way I do, why I believe aftercare shapes a garden and the collaborative approach that underpins my work.

What draws me to designing gardens and working in them is the wish to create spaces that bring us closer to the natural landscape whilst also supporting the ecosystem around us. I believe gardens that can both nurture our wellbeing and be beneficial to the natural world.

Deepening our connection with nature

Plants are at the heart of what I do - they shape how a garden feels. We begin with a strong layout that responds to the site and your use of the space - using modern, natural and clean materials to create a calm framework for the planting to sit within.

I then design a layered planting scheme, inspired by natural plant communities where each plant has a role to play. The result is a garden that is beautiful, resilient and designed to thrive with small intervention – creating a space that continues to bring joy season after season while supporting wildlife and the wider landscape.

Shaping the design together

I find the most successful projects grow from a close working relationship with my clients — shaping the design together and continuing the conversation as the garden develops.

Your input plays a vital role in guiding the direction of the design and helping your garden establish successfully, ensuring the space feels personal, meaningful and uniquely yours.

If this approach resonates with you, I’d be happy to start a conversation about your garden.

Gardens Evolve over time

Designing a garden is only the beginning of its journey - the planting design lays the foundation for a successful and fulfilling garden, but for a garden to truly thrive, ongoing care and thoughtful guidance are essential. In the early stages, careful attention allows young plants to establish well and for the design to take shape as intended. As the garden matures, gentle adjustments and considered refinements help your garden develop towards its full potential, allowing it to evolve naturally and settle into its surroundings.

Realistic Timelines, Thoughtful Design

Underpinning everything I do is a calm and thoughtful way of working. Good design requires time to think, test and refine, and I communicate this clearly through indicative timelines and realistic expectations. It is important to me that the design process feels sustainable — not only for the environment, but also for the people involved.

For this reason, I take on a small number of projects at any one time. This allows space for strong client relationships to develop and evolve. Through planned seasonal visits and ongoing guidance, I support you in caring for your garden with confidence. Staying connected to the practical gardening work is essential to me; it keeps my knowledge grounded and my craft continually evolving.
