Garden & Planting Design

A collaborative design process that establishes the foundation for a garden to grow and flourish over time.

Garden and Planting Design is the first part of my full design and aftercare service and suits clients who would like a masterplan for their garden but are either not ready to implement it or comfortable implementing it independently. It is also suited to those who would like the planting in existing borders redesigned, and don’t require a layout plan. If you are interested in my full design and aftercare service, this will form the first phase. Find more information here: Design, Planting, Aftercare

  • My approach to garden design is rooted in the idea of creating a strong foundation from with the garden can develop over the years.

Through a collaborative design process, we develop a clear framework for the space — one that works for how you want to live in the garden while supporting healthy, resilient planting and habitat for wildlife. The aim is to create gardens that feel calm, natural and restorative, where both people and nature can thrive over time.

    • Site visit + design brief clarification

    • Function-led garden layout plan

    • Planting design grounded in sustainability and resilience

    • Material guidance (direction, specifications if required)

    • Clear design rationale (the why behind decisions)

    • Defined review and decision points

    • Construction oversight or contractor management

    • Plant sourcing or implementation

    • Ongoing correspondence beyond agreed reviews

    • Maintenance or aftercare services

  • For larger designs & layout changes please have a look at the Design Process Page.

For planting design on it’s own, we will start with a site visit to discuss your requirements, followed by a site survey to assess the existing planting, take stock and measurements.

From your ideas and requirements I will create a plant list, planting plans, plant details and 3D sketches, depending on what is required for your project which we will review together before creating the final design.
